Guest Artist and Workshops at Dance Arts
We are delighted to offer our students a range of workshops from esteemed artists of the Toronto dance community. These have included:
- an Injury Prevention Workshop with dancer/teacher/physiotherapist Darryl Tracy where students learned warm up strategies, how to gain strength, stretching tips and more, to help keep them healthy and dancing all year!
- an incredible West African Dance workshop with Lua Shayenne. A gifted choreographer and performer, Lua brings teachings in West African dance, music, storytelling, and culture to communities and schools across Canada and Europe. We are so grateful to have experienced her powerful artistry and generosity in the studio.
- a Consent and Boundaries for Dancers workshop led by Anisa Tejpar who we are happy to have fostering open conversations around safer spaces in movement.
- a Krump workshop led by Monica “Knives” Fernandes who is an active member of the Krump community and has taught, judged and battled across the globe.
- a dramaturgy workshop guided by Dedra McDermott for the third year class as part of their composition curriculum.

Dance Arts Alumni featured in Night Shift 2025
In late October, the Citadel + Compagnie and Fall For Dance North co-presented Night Shift, a late-night dance festival known for innovation, risk-taking, and inclusion in contemporary performance. We are proud to celebrate the achievements of four Dance Arts alumni who were featured in the festival. Congratulations to our newest graduate, Ranganathan Rajan (Class of 2025), who presented and performed his original work The Running Project, first developed through Dance Arts’ 2025 Choreographic Workshop and Ben King (Class of 2022) for presenting his piece Violent Delight Requiem, performed by alumni Maya Santos O’Keefe (Class of 2023) and Emmett Bradshaw (Class of 2024). We are so proud to see Dance Arts so strongly represented among the exceptional artists featured in this year’s edition of Night Shift!
Dance Immersion partnership with Dance Arts
Dance Arts has developed a new dance exchange partnership with dance Immersion for their 2025/2026 season. This partnership allows our students to attend all three of their Toronto performances as well as discounted rates to their workshops, and other offerings. Most recently, students attended DanceWorks’ presentation (and the Toronto premiere) of two boundary-pushing works by Mélanie Demers of Mayday Dance: La Goddam Voie Lactée and Confession Publique. Some of the students also participated in a choreographic lab led by Mélanie Demers. We are so grateful and excited to embark on this partnership: thank you dance Immersion!
