VIDEO AUDITIONS

1. Letter of Intent
In your letter of intent, please outline personal experiences that connect your creative impulses and career goals to your future studies at Dance Arts. You may want to consider these questions:
- What is your most memorable dance-related experience and/or what draws you to dance? How do you think this informs your desire to pursue professional training?
- What current dance forms, choreographers or work inspires you, and why?
- In what ways do you explore and/or think about movement in your daily life?
- Why do you want to study at Dance Arts?
2. Dance Resumé/CV
In your dance resume, please clearly outline your experiences that are relevant to your dance training and performance experience. This may include:
- Education/Dance Training Professional experience in:
– Performance– Choreography– Teaching Experience
– Workshops
– Relevant scholarships and bursaries
– Other information relevant to your dance experiences
3. Audition Video
Audition video should be approximately 15 minutes in length (maximum 20 minutes). Please provide an unlisted youtube or vimeo link.
Please begin your video stating your name, your age, and where you are currently residing.
1. Warm-Up Exercises
- Pliés/knee bends in 1st and 2nd that also demonstrate torso mobility (1 side)
- Brushes/tendus, changing weight to the front, side, and back (both sides)
- Kicks, and slow leg extensions (both sides)
2. Centre Work
- Contemporary Floorwork that uses the full body (1 side)
- Centre phrase demonstrating weight shifts, travelling, movement that moves into the floor and back up (1 side)
- Centre phrase including turns (both sides)
- Travelling jump sequence (both sides)
- Two phrases to be learned can be found linked on the application form

3. Improvisation (2 minutes)
Simple take (no cuts, edits, or special effects). Please include brief description of parameters of improvisation.
4. Choreographed solo material (2 minutes)
Simple take (no cuts, edits, or special effects). Please ensure your submission includes sound. For good visibility, keep in mind what you are wearing for the filming should be in contrast to the colour of the studio/space you are working in.
If you have a longer solo video, please list what time stamp you want the panel to watch/review.
Please ensure video is clear and of good quality, with you dancing fully in frame. The material should demonstrate: physicality, dynamic differentiation, floorwork, and a sense of musicality, ideally within a contemporary dance style that includes your own creative voice.
The video does not need to be of professional quality.
4. Photo
A recent portrait or headshot.
5. Letter of Recommendation
The letter can be emailed directly to the school by a recent dance teacher to admissions@danceartsinstitute.ca
6. Contact Information for Three References
At least one reference must be a dance reference, and one must be a personal reference. Please provide a telephone number and/or email address (letter not required).
7. Transcript of Most Recent Academic Year, or Proof of High School/Secondary School Completion
If you are currently in your final year of High school/Secondary school, please provide your most recent transcript.
If you have graduated, please provide a copy of your final transcript or diploma, showing date of graduation.
*Applicants who do not possess the minimum academic requirements (OSSD or equivalent), but who are 18 years or older by the first official day of classes, may apply as a mature student. Please contact the School for more information.
8. $50.00 Application Fee
Applicants are required to submit a non-refundable $50 application fee. All payments must be made in Canadian funds. Please send e-transfer to bethany@danceartsinstitute.ca, and include the following information in the description:
