Micaela Janse Van Rensburg

Micaela is a Tkaronto-based dance artist and a graduate of Dance Arts Institute, where she was awarded the First Year Excellence in Performance Prize and the Kathryn Ash Scholarship. Her performance experience includes presentations at the Common Ground Dance Festival, DanceWorks’ Unfinish/Unfurl Festival, the InSitu Multi-Arts Festival, GroundUp Dance Festival, SummerWorks Festival, the Garage TO, and the Dance Made in Canada Festival. She has had the pleasure of collaborating with and performing in works by inspiring artists including Movement Market Collective, Frog in Hand, Katie Adams-Gossage, Ellen Moore, Kt Ayer, Emmett Bradshaw, Alli Carry, Rumi Jeraj, and Maya Santos O’Keefe. In 2024, she received DAI’s Winchester Prize for choreographic distinction, which supported the expansion of her work Camille Cubed at SummerWorks Lab. Micaela is dedicated to her growing practice of teaching and knowledge sharing. She holds a position as an assistant facilitator with Yvonne Ng and Princess Productions for the Moving Stories and Swallowing Clouds programs and teaches dance for studios across Toronto. She is also in the process of completing her teacher certification in the STOTT Pilates method. Her practice continues to evolve through performance, creation, and teaching, with a growing interest in integrating improvisation, floorwork, and somatic approaches into both her choreographic and pedagogical work. She is thrilled to be joining the team at Dance Arts for the evening program.

Micaela est artiste de danse basée à Tkaronto et diplômée du Dance Arts Institute, où elle a reçu le prix d’excellence en interprétation de première année et la bourse Kathryn Ash. Elle s’est produite notamment au Common Ground Dance Festival, au DanceWorks’ Unfinish/Unfurl Festival, au InSitu Multi-Arts Festival, au GroundUp Dance Festival, au SummerWorks Festival, au Garage TO et au Dance Made in Canada Festival.  Elle a eu le plaisir de collaborer et de se produire dans des œuvres d’artistes inspirants, notamment Movement Market Collective, Frog in Hand, Katie Adams-Gossage, Ellen Moore, Kt Ayer, Emmett Bradshaw, Alli Carry, Rumi Jeraj et Maya Santos O’Keefe. Micaela se consacre à sa pratique d’enseignement et de partage des connaissances. Elle occupe un poste d’assistante animatrice auprès d’Yvonne Ng et de Princess Productions pour les programmes Moving Stories et Swallowing Clouds, et enseigne la danse dans différents studios à Toronto.  Elle est également en train d’obtenir son certificat d’enseignante dans la méthode STOTT Pilates. Sa pratique continue d’évoluer à travers la performance, la création et l’enseignement, avec un intérêt pour l’intégration de l’improvisation, du travail au sol et des approches somatiques dans son travail chorégraphique et pédagogique. Elle est ravie de rejoindre l’équipe de Dance Arts pour le programme du soir.
