Tanveer Alam

Toronto-based Tanveer Alam started his Kathak training with Sudeshna Maulik and continued further nuanced studies with guru Sandhya Desai. Alam is a 2019 graduate of western contemporary dance from Dance Arts Institute of Canada (DAI).

 

Alam has performed in the works of Rina Singha, Lata Pada, Padmini Chettur, Brandy Leary, Harikishan S. Nair, Sashar Zarif, Lucy Rupert, and Peter Chin, to name a few. As an emerging choreographer, he has presented work at SummerWorks Festival, Battery Dance Festival +, MAI – Montréal, arts, interculturels, CanAsian Dance Festival: Grit Short Dances, and Tangente. As an emerging curator, he has supported programming initiatives with Dancemakers, TOES FOR DANCE, and Flemingdon Park Toronto Public Library.

 

Across the 24/25 season, Alam performed solo presentations at Vilaya Festival (Pittsburgh), The New York Kathak Festival (New York), and Navatman Black Box Baithak (New York). He was a commissioned choreographer for Sampradaya Dance Creation’s 35th year anniversary work, Salaam Rahman, featuring AR Rahman’s oeuvre performed by the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, he premiered his collaborative work Ibaadat with co-choreographer Barkha Patel, at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (Mumbai), and his choreographed double bill NAKSHA at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.

En tant que conservateur émergent, il a soutenu des initiatives de programmation avec Dancemakers, TOES FOR DANCE et la bibliothèque publique Flemingdon Park de Toronto.

Au cours de la saison 2024-2025, Alam a donné des représentations en solo au Vilaya Festival (Pittsburgh), au New York Kathak Festival (New York) et au Navatman Black Box Baithak (New York). Il a été chorégraphe attitré pour l’œuvre Salaam Rahman, créée à l’occasion du 35e anniversaire de Sampradaya Dance Creation, qui mettait en vedette l’œuvre d’AR Rahman interprétée par l’Orchestre symphonique de Mississauga.Plus récemment, il a présenté en première son œuvre collaborative Ibaadat, en collaboration avec la chorégraphe Barkha Patel, au Centre culturel Nita Mukesh Ambani (Mumbai), ainsi que son double programme chorégraphique NAKSHA au Musée Aga Khan de Toronto.
