Stich Wynston

Stich Wynston is a drummer, composer, bandleader and sideman born and based in Toronto, Canada and best known for his 30+ years as the dynamic drummer for The Shuffle Demons. He attended York University from 1980 – 1985 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree majoring in music including studies in jazz with John Gittens and Lorne Lofsky, South Indian classical music with Trichy Sancharan and 20th-century classical music with James Tenney. During that time period Stich was also accepted to the world-renowned Banff School of Fine Arts summer jazz program for three years running in 1982, 1983 and 1984. While at the Banff School, Stich had the good fortune of studying with and playing with Dave Holland, Dave Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz, Steve Coleman, John Abercrombie, Anthony Braxton, Albert Manglesdorf and Julian Priester.

For the past three decades Stich has been one of the first call musical accompanists for dance in Toronto working at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, Toronto Dance Theatre Company, Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre School and Company, Dancemakers, Ballet Creole, The National Ballet of Canada School, York University Dance Department, Ryerson University Dance Department, George Brown College Dance Department and many more working with the top dance teachers and choreographers both locally, domestically and internationally.  Stich has also toured with the Ballet Creole Company performing in theatres across southern Ontario.

Stich Wynston est batteur, compositeur, chef d’orchestre et sideman né et basé à Toronto, au Canada. Il est surtout connu pour avoir été pendant plus de 30 ans le batteur dynamique du groupe The Shuffle Demons. Il a fréquenté l’université York de 1980 à 1985, où il a obtenu son baccalauréat en beaux-arts avec une spécialisation en musique. Il a notamment étudié le jazz avec John Gittens et Lorne Lofsky, la musique classique de l’Inde du Sud avec Trichy Sancharan et la musique classique du XXe siècle avec James Tenney. Au cours de cette période, Stich a également été admis au programme d’été de jazz de la Banff School of Fine Arts, de renommée mondiale, pendant trois années consécutives, en 1982, 1983 et 1984. Pendant son séjour à la Banff School, Stich a eu la chance d’étudier et de jouer avec Dave Holland, Dave Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz, Steve Coleman, John Abercrombie, Anthony Braxton, Albert Manglesdorf et Julian Priester.

Au cours des trois dernières décennies, Stich a été l’un des premiers accompagnateurs musicaux pour la danse à Toronto, travaillant avec la School of Toronto Dance Theatre, la Toronto Dance Theatre Company, la Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre School and Company, Dancemakers, Ballet Creole, l’école du Ballet national du Canada, le département de danse de l’Université York, le département de danse de l’Université Ryerson, le département de danse du George Brown College et bien d’autres encore, travaillant avec les meilleurs professeurs de danse et chorégraphes, tant au niveau local, national qu’international. Stich a également effectué des tournées avec la Ballet Creole Company dans les théâtres du sud de l’Ontario.
